New Source

Upton, MA

Tata & Howard has worked alongside the Town of Upton to search for a new groundwater source for several years.  In 2005, a new site was identified, preliminarily tested and determined to have potential as a new potable drinking water source.  A Request for Site Exam and Pump Test Proposal was submittal and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) in 2006, and pump testing was completed in 2007.  During the extended pump test, four well clusters and numerous observation wells, staff gauges and piezometers were monitored for impacts to the local groundwater table and adjacent wetlands.  The information collected during the testing identified an available yield of 0.5 million gallons per day, which will assist the Town of Upton in meeting their long term water needs.  This site was approved by MassDEP in 2009 for development.  Pilot testing for treatment of the new supply is underway.
