Natick Water Treatment Facility
Due
to contamination from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
at two of Natick's water supply wells, the Town took
steps to construct a water treatment facility to treat
the water from the contaminated wells. Tata & Howard
conducted a water treatment facility siting evaluation
and pilot study; and completed the design of the treatment
facility, which utilizes air stripping and pressure
filtration technology.
Tata & Howard also provided construction administration
services for the water treatment facility and associated
new raw and finished water transmission mains. The facility
has treatment capacities of 6.0 mgd for VOCs and 4.0
mgd for iron and manganese removal. The design utilized
the existing Springvale water pump station to house
the greensand pressure filters, and a new building for
the air stripping units, high lift pumps, laboratory
and offices. The new building aesthetically matches
the existing building. We also successfully provided
assistance in securing approximately $4.0 million in
a zero percent interest loan through the SRF program,
as well as $3.0 million contribution from the US Army
Labs in Natick.
