South Deerfield Water Treatment Facility
The
South Deerfield Water Supply District retained Tata
& Howard to design a water filtration plant for
its 1.4 mgd Roaring Brook Reservoir surface water supply.
The recently completed facility includes a raw water
pump station, three coagulation/filtration units, chemical
storage and feed facilities, finished water clearwell,
two sludge storage lagoons and a 1.0 mg precast concrete
storage reservoir.
The
plant has the ability to either recycle supernatant
from the sludge storage lagoons to the raw water inlet
or discharge the supernatant to a nearby brook under
an EPA NPDES permit. Tata & Howard worked closely
with the District's personnel in order to incorporate
their suggestions into the final design. Tata &
Howard completed the design of a 1.0 million gallon
above ground storage tank and provided engineering services
during the construction of the tank on the site of the
new water treatment facility. We also successfully secured
approximately $4.23 million in a zero interest loan
from the DWSRF program.
